2009
Now that it’s November, it’s time to start considering your marketing strategies for 2010. Before you begin, look over what you have done for your 2009 marketing strategies and determine which ones worked and which ones didn’t work. Because of the economic hardships throughout the year, you may want to venture your study further back by another year. Here are a couple of things to keep in mind as you evaluate your recent campaigns and venture into your 2010 marketing plans.
Consider what your focus was. What were your objectives? Have your objectives changed or do they need to change? How was your branding and relationship building? Did you meet your targeted statistics? By covering this area, you will know how to measure the effectiveness of your email marketing. If you were not too successful, now is the time to evaluate the different aspects of your campaign and identify the areas of difficulty. Find the reason behind your results for both positives and negatives.
- List all your campaign techniques and assess which ones were the most effective. Take out the techniques that were ineffective and decide whether the time consuming (but successful) techniques are worth it.
- Evaluate your subscriber list and find ways to personalize and make your content more relevant. Now would be a perfect time to segment the list where needed and work on retention.
- What about your content? You will also want to re-evaluate your content and see if they are consistently relevant to your reader’s needs. Is a change in need?
- How did your schedule do? Check your schedule for accurate sending and how it impacted your open and delivery rates. Based on your findings, you may consider developing a plan to improve your delivery rates by decreasing spam rejections and fixing technical issues.
Most importantly, make sure that you are in compliance with Spam guidelines and that your domain key names are correct. With all your evaluations, you will be in excellent condition to begin laying out what you need to do for 2010. If 2009 wasn’t that great for you, take it as a learning experience and an opportunity to improve exponentially upon. Remember that the recent economy hasn’t been particularly kind. You should take the economic factors into consideration and use it to do some forecasting for 2010.
